Posted in [Hurricane Hints] By MitzyGoose
"You should really check sites like www.redcross.org for the usual suggestions. They have lots more detail there. Here is the summary version. Note that most lists say that you need a 3 day supply. We personally feel that you should be prepared for 1 week due to the delay of supplies to damaged areas! Plus, you might want to donate supplies to someone in need - so you will want some extra supplies.
  • 1 Gallon of water per person per day.
  • Non-perishable food
  • First Aid kit
  • Basic Over the counter medicines (aspirin, antacid, syrup of ipecac, anti diarreal medicine, laxative, activated charcoal)
  • Prescription medicine (we recommend at least 1 month's worth)
  • Mess kits, or paper cups, plates, and plastic utensils*
  • Emergency preparedness manual*
  • Battery-operated radio and extra batteries*
  • Flashlight and extra batteries*
  • Cash or traveler's checks, change*
