This was our Poor-man's portable A/C system! There are several variations of this device. We use the Misty Mate which has a pump that will cause a mist of water to come out of the tubing. It takes very little water (you don't want to waste!) but provides LOTS of cooling. If you want one of these, PLEASE shop wisely! We didn't pay $60 and don't recommend that you do either! We can tell you that you won't be sorry that you got one of these items! We bought it for our trip to Disneyworld and never thought we'd use it again...

Another option...during the summer, you'll find little battery powered fans with a spray bottle. You turn on the fan then spray the water for another cooling feeling. Again...it was purchased for Disneyworld and we were about to trash it. This was one of our "last minute grabs" from the nest before we left!

In trouble and need cooling right away? Try a clean, plain spray bottle (think $1 at the dollar store or walmart). Fill with water, then spray your family. Not the most pleasant, but better than frying! The camping stores also sell tent fans. For a mere $10 you can have a D battery operated fan (approx 10-12" sq). Combine with your spray bottle and you've got A/C!

Clearly, we're not recommending that you put yourself into a situation where it's 100+ deg fahrenheit and there's no shelter or A/C. NO NO NO!!! However, if you should find yourself on a rural road, no help, no shade and you're worried about heat stroke, the fan and spray bottle may be your only cooling system and it is better than nothing!
