Here's the exclusive list for this year (in no particular order)...check these things out:
- Album of the Year - ok, it's a tie between Matt's Mood by Matt Bianco and Where Our Love Grows by Swing Out Sister. We saw both live concerts and they were great! We do think that Matt's Mood has more good songs on it, but both are very danceable - good crafting music.
Both are available at Amazon.com. They maybe rare in stores because they aren't popular anymore.
- Food of the Year - OMG! Garrett Popcorn now sells online. This is the FAMOUS Chicago popcorn that Gene Siskel used to eat at the movies. Though, he liked the little bag. We like the BIG bag. Mix the caramel and cheese popcorn together...a gourmet delight!
- Techno-Gadget of the Year - our new Garmin Streetfinder 2720. See review here: http://www.southerngoose.info/LifestyleGuide/tabid/108/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/26/To-GPS-or-Not-to-GPS.aspx
- Affordable Luxury of the Year - a tie between Body Cream from Bath and Body Works (all scents are great!)
and Dr Phyto's bath salts. Please note that we aren't doctors, we're just geese. We can't vouch for the health benefits that Dr Phyto claims. Be careful because we hear that people who are allergic to seafood should never use the Cellulite Detox since it contains sea weed. You're on your own on this one - please use your own common sense and wisdom. We can tell you that our geese love these salts (Sleep Like a Baby is another goood one)...but we can't be responsible if you have problems with the salts. We do not receive compensation from Dr Phyto. UPDATE 2007: OMG Dr Phyto did a Houdini...he's gone-er-roonie!!!
- Online Service of the Year - We're techno-book-a-holics so we love //safari.oreilly.com. They now have so many more interesting books now, than they did 1 year ago. We're into Photoshop, Premiere and Illustrator and there are now tons of instructional books about that software, as well as the programming books we love, but can't afford. Read up to 20 books at a time for one low monthly/yearly fee. We break down and buy the year and resist the urge to buy the hardcopy. Now we have more room at our nest for more important things (like craft supplies!)
- Organizational Product of the Year - Elfa shelving - yes, the entire line! We have two Elfa'd closets and an Elfa'd corner wall. Now, we're moving on to Elfa another closet and two more walls. You do NOT have to have a professional installer! We do like to have at least 2 geese available to hang the top rail, but after that, you'll need only one, novice goose with a good eye for organization to install the standards and shelves.
Software of the Year - we could name several, but one of our "unknown favorites" has got to be Freshwatch. Freshwatch will manage your internet favorites. The reason we got it - it will allow you to enter comments about each site. It also records when you last went to a site. So, let's say you went somewhere in your favorites, but you don't remember which site it was. Check all the sites you went to yesterday and hopefully you can find it. You can also tell it to check the sites to see if the page is still there. That feature is handy for card sites that "disappear". We hate opening one site after another, only to find that it's not there anymore. Let Freshwatch check and tell you which ones have been updated and which aren't there anymore! Got stale favorites cluttering up your list? Remove all the ones that you haven't visited in ages! UPDATE in 2006: We're sad to report that Freshwatch is no more. They've walked off the face of the earth. Worse, we paid for it and can't use it because their licencing required validation with their webserver. Since they aren't there, their webserver isn't there either - no validation, no bookmarks, unhappy geese!!! We then switched to LinkCommander...something that was quite promising, but it stopped working after a few Microsoft "updates" and no one will respond to our pleas. So LinkCommander is on the "bad bad" list until they can respond to us with a fix!!!
