Incognito - Eleven

We recently got our copy of "Eleven" from Incognito, even though it's really been out for a year (yes, we're a bit behind).  This album, unlike the others really didn't have any "hopping" songs, they are mostly smooth or what we call "airplane music".  For those who don't know our geese, "airplane music" is smooth, soulful, unoffensive music that you could easily sleep to or just as easily read or knit to.  Since we aren't allowed to sing, honk or dance in "cattle class" on an airplane, we adjust our music selections accordingly.    This music could calm the most savage beast (and some of our Geese have been known to become rather savage on an airplane!)

Our favorite selections:

  • We Got Music - the hippest of the bunch with representation from the brass and percussion sections.  Still "low" enough to be sedentary airplane music.
  • Baby It's Alright - could be lullaby-ish, with a bit of beat and requisite "oohs".  Remixed, this could be a great "acappella" song with vocal harmonies!
  • When Tomorrow Brings you Down - great piano parts, but really another slow, soulful song, not an aerobic exercise song
  • I'll Get By - ok, we're running out of ways to describe a bunch of soulful oohs...the whole album is ooh, and low tones
  • It's Just One of those Things - We just love when they sing "It's just one of those things..." it's a lovely harmony!  Good morning heartache!!!  There's a line.

This is an album that has a similar, but more contemporary, richer feel than 100 and rising.   If you liked 100 and rising, you'll love Eleven.   GooseRating: 8 of 10 happy honks - it's really missing a few dance songs, but we love the album and will reserve it for 8-10 hr airplane rides.
