We're surprised to hear that some people don't know about Feb 19, 2009, the changeover to digital tv! All analog signals will be turned off so that the "air" can be reused for something else. What does that really mean? We'll let the pros tell you here at DTV answers.
In short, the people who will be most affected will be those who do not have any subscription tv (they watch "free" tv over the antenna). If you have cable or some other subscription service, we don't think you'll be all that affected because you aren't using the antenna to "catch" your analog signal.
The GooseCrystalBall says that, for those of you who have not yet bought your digital TV, early to mid next year (2008) is the optimal time to buy the new tv. We think everyone will be flooding the market with tvs and specials etc. Of course, we could be wrong and there could be a derth of tvs because everyone is buying and they run out of stock.
If you use pay service (dish, cable, etc) and you have a nice "new" (<5-6 yrs old) tv and you really can't afford a new one? Well, keep the old one! The only people affected are those who use an antenna.
We geese will replace one tv at a time...no rush. We will have our cable or uverse signal to rely on until we can save enough for new, fancy tvs.
One other KEY message from DTV Answers...there's a COUPON available to buy the digital converter! Another good thing to know if you're not quite ready to ditch your old set. Don't buy the converter now...wait for the coupon!!!
