News in Cruising since our Cruise in 2003

Posted in [Cruising] By Wilbur Goose

Here are the changes since our last cruise:

  • New Activities - now they have scrapbooking classes???? NEATO! Ok, now we're not expecting a full "class" with instruction, but a few cool stickers and die cuts would be great. We'll be bringing our page protectors to carry our stuff home, flat

Foam Party - hmmm...we haven't seen foam parties since dancing in firemen's foam in the 1970's. Interesting...

  • Bingo Dog - sounds like another revenue generator. Take $1 dog made in Asia, turn him into a $10 souvenir and throw them an extra bingo card to raise their hopes. :) Ok, we're not going to complain..,and a dog is definitely going to be a good companion for Mitzy on the cruise. Another item for the backpack...

  • Johnny Rockets - we're really thrilled to try this! We're not in favor of the $3.95 per Goose cover charge. The bulletin boards of course reflect the mixed reactions to this. One side says "Why should I pay extra for a hamburger?" The other says ""But when it was free, the teenagers took over, there were long lines etc!" We understand that it's hard to kickout the "hanger-outers" but still...charging $3.95? Wouldn't charging $1.95 serve the same purpose? We also think that RCI made a good move on the new ships to build a "living room" (aka, a teenager friendly place to just "hang out"). The solution is to make another place MORE fun than Johnny Rockets!

Ok...our Geese will have a coupon for a free trip to Johnny Rockets (maybe RCI could have given out freebies to non-teenagers???) and we'll try the place. If we like it, we may get soaked for a few trips over 13 days. If we don't like it, nothing lost. :)

  • Ice Skating/Roller Blading - we hear that the skates are like rental boots...stiff and yucky but it'll still be fun to do, if the ship isn't rocking too much. We're definitely there!

  • No fruffy drink card - Oh geez...and not only is there no discount fruffy drink card, but they now have smoothies. Think about it...9 days at sea, nothing to do but play bingo and knit, we'll be wishing for smoothies! WilburGoose will definitely put the team on a smoothie budget!!!
