Some People shouldn't Review Knitting Books!

Some People shouldn't Review Knitting Books!

Posted in [Knitting Humor] By MitzyGoose

This is just a shameful review, probably written by the junior member of the team (the only one in the office that day!) and they needed to fill a space on the web/newspaper. Please...why didn't you just let him review a WII game or something instead? In any case, it appears that he tried to read a few pages of the book and he TRIED to understand it. But he could have been a bit more respectful to the craft.

BOOK REVIEW: `Field Guide to Knitting' - Here we go loop the loop

By JOHN MARK EBERHART

McClatchy Newspapers

""Field Guide to Knitting: How to Identify, Select, and Work Virtually Every Stitch"" by Jackie Pawlowski; Quirk Books ($15.95 paperback)

OK, the day you catch me with a pair of knitting needles in my hands, you can just go ahead and check for icicles down there in Dante's ninth ring. Actually, if you re-read Dante, you'll find that this lowest level of hell does involve ice.

What I mean is that knitting isn't my thing. That said, I can tell that Jackie Pawlowski's ""Field Guide to Knitting"" is an excellent resource for anyone who does strive to produce purls of wisdom.

Much of the book is devoted to explaining the how-tos of various stitches. The one that caught my eye was the garter stitch, which was devised to make sure ladies' stockings didn't fall down. Now, of course, it's true that some unsavory cads might snicker over the true utility of such a stitch, but I am a gentleman. Besides, the garter stitch helps socks stay up, too. Isn't human ingenuity grand?

The book also features a center section of glossy color pages that demonstrate how the stitches are supposed to look if you do them correctly. Overall Pawlowski's book appears to be a very no-nonsense guide, but I still found it rather peculiar to discover knitting was so darned complicated. I know the book is no joke - but it's definitely a stitch.
